What is Vida Health?

Vida is a virtual health program that offers personalized weight-loss programs and live, one-on-one support from a health expert — all through an easy-to-use mobile app and website.

When you sign up with Vida, you will be able to meet with your care team online in video sessions or chat with them in the app. Your care team will offer personalized support (including nutrition and exercise) to help you meet your health goals.

Through Vida, you will have access to resources to help you achieve your weight loss goals, such as exercise and educational videos, recipes and more. Additionally, for easy progress tracking you can connect your fitness tracker or health device with the Vida app!

Who is eligible for Vida through Schwab?

All Schwabbies and their dependents aged 18+ enrolled in a Schwab United Healthcare (UHC) medical plan are eligible for Vida Health at no charge, except for employees residing in Puerto Rico.

Individuals with Type I or Type II diabetes are unable to participate in Vida’s weight-loss programs. This is because diabetes medication needs to be carefully monitored by the doctor managing your diabetes during weight-loss.

What programs are available through Vida?

Based on your answers to questions about your health history and goals, you will be placed in one of the following weight-loss programs:

  1. Preventive Weight Loss: This program focuses on behavior change. You will have your own dedicated health coach working with you to develop eating and exercise skills that are tailored to you and your goals. In addition to weekly coaching sessions, you will have the option to message your coach, and group chat with other people committed to losing weight. You will also have the option to connect devices such as a smart scale to help you track your progress. Members in this program lose an average of 5% or more of their body weight in 12 months.
  2. Medical Weight Loss: This program is tailored for individuals at a higher BMI who would benefit from additional clinical oversight and support. In addition to a registered dietitian, your care team may also include a Vida medical provider. The Medical Weight Loss program will help you lose weight through behavior changes, including medical nutrition therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. If clinically appropriate for you, Vida medical providers are also able to assess for and prescribe weight-loss medications, as well as help manage side effects.

Do I have to participate in Vida to have coverage for my weight loss medication?

Yes, effective July 1, 2026 you must enroll and participate in Vida program activities each month to have your medications covered under your pharmacy benefit through Schwab.  Starting April 1, 2026, you can begin by enrolling in Vida at vida.com/schwab and click on the “Join Now” button to get started in a Vida weight loss program. Each month you must participate in Vida program activities to meet the engagement requirement. Vida will let your pharmacy benefit plan know when you’ve completed the activities required for each month to ensure appropriate benefit coverage.

If you are enrolled and engaged with Vida, the cost of your medication is based on your Prescription Drug benefit coverage and the type of medication you are taking. Weight-loss medications are not subject to the deductible, however, coinsurance with minimums and/or maximums may apply. Remember, effective July 1, 2026, if you do not participate in Vida each month, your GLP-1 medication for weight loss will not be covered under your pharmacy benefit through Schwab.

What monthly activities are required to ensure my medication is covered by my Schwab benefits?

Each month you must engage by:

  1. Completing a consultation with a Vida provider or participating in a synchronous group coaching session one time per month and
  2. Measuring and recording a health goal or outcome metric either manually or through a connected device three times per week, for at least three out of four weeks in the month and
  3. Completing a program unit or related educational content (e.g., lesson, health screener, content card, worksheet, guided video) one time per week, for at least two out of four weeks in the month.

Will I have to pay for my weight-loss medication in full if I do not engage with Vida?

Yes. For members aged 18 or older, if you are not enrolled and engaged in the Vida program, your GLP-1 weight loss medication will not be covered by your Schwab Pharmacy benefits. Members will be denied coverage at the pharmacy and will be required to pay for their medications in full. This requirement does not apply to diabetes GLP-1’s.
