What is the Vida Medical Weight Loss program?
Your employer and Quantum Health have partnered with Vida to offer Vida’s Medical Weight Loss Program.
Vida’s Medical Weight Loss program is an online program that helps you reach your health goals. It’s part of your employer sponsored benefits available at no extra cost to you.
You will work with a dietitian who will give you the attention that serious weight loss deserves. Making changes in what, how, and why you eat and move your body is the first step. You’ll make an eating plan with foods you like, so you can shed pounds and keep up energy.
This isn’t about willpower. It’s about powerful, science-backed weight loss.
Your care team can also help you with other health goals, like building strength, boosting energy, or improving blood pressure or cholesterol.
Depending on your progress, you may meet with a Vida medical provider to talk about additional treatment options, including medicine. They’ll check your health history, medicines, and lab results and can order new labs if needed.
You’ll also get helpful tools like videos, lessons, and recipes. You can even connect fitness trackers or other devices to make tracking your progress easy. (See most common list in 3rd-Party Devices and Apps below).
Who can use the Vida Medical Weight Loss program?
If you get your prescription coverage through a participating Quantum Health employer-sponsored plan, and are 18 or older, you and your covered family members can use Vida’s Medical Weight Loss program at no cost.
To join Vida, you must meet a Body Mass Index (BMI) requirement. Some limits and rules may apply.
Note that the cost of medicine is not determined by Vida. The cost of the medicine prescribed by Vida depends on your pharmacy benefits plan and may be subject to a deductible, coinsurance, or copay.
How do I get started?
Go to vida.com/quantum or download the Vida app from your phone’s app store. Then create an account.
After you have created an account, you will answer a few questions about yourself and your weight-loss goals. If you meet the clinical criteria to continue participation in Vida’s Medical Weight Loss program, you will be able to choose a care team member who you will work with towards your weight-loss goals. This person may be a health coach or dietitian, depending on your health needs.
After you have selected your coach/dietician, you will be shown the next available appointment times.* Choose the best one for you. If you have any trouble finding an appointment time that works, do not hesitate to email support@vida.com
*If you have a prescription for weight-loss medicine, you may be asked to share additional information with Vida before scheduling an appointment with a Vida medical provider. We’ll let you know what these steps are in your Status list.
How do I schedule an appointment with the Vida care team?
When you log into the app, you can schedule an appointment directly through the Vida Home screen.
Can I change care team members if it doesn’t work out with my current one?
To request a change, go to the Home screen in your Vida Health app, tap the gear icon in the upper right, then tap Request New Coach. You’ll complete a brief survey so we can match you with a new coach that’s a good fit for your style and goals.
What do I need to do to meet with a Vida medical provider in the Medical Weight Loss Program?
These steps must be completed before meeting with a Vida medical provider:
1. Initial Enrollment
- Enroll in Vida Health through vida.com/quantum or the Vida mobile app.
- In the app, fill out the onboarding questionnaire and select your main health goal.
- Schedule with your dietitian or join your support group.
2. Weight-loss medicine history and documentation
- If you are not on weight-loss medicines prior to enrollment in Vida, you will initially work on Medical Nutrition Therapy with a Vida Dietitian. You will work closely with a coach and/or dietitian over the course of a few months.
- If you have previously been prescribed a weight-loss medicine, you will be asked to upload some documents, which will include labs and medical records. Your status list in the app will tell you which documents are needed and how to upload them.
- Lab results*, which will be required, must have been completed in the last twelve months, and will include TSH, CMP, A1c, and Lipid Panel. Let your Vida medical provider know by sending a private “My Care Teams” chat if your most recent lab work was completed more than twelve months ago or if you are missing some of the required results. The provider will send you a lab work order that you can print and take with you to a network lab of your choice. If you need help finding an in-network lab, please reach out to your care coordinators at the number on your insurance card.
3 . Meet with Your Vida Medical Provider
- If you have been asked to upload documents, once you have done so and we have verified we have what is needed, you will be able to schedule with a Vida provider.
- During this visit, if you are currently taking weight-loss medicine, you are required to show proof of your most recent prescription.
*Lab results and prescriber notes can be securely submitted to your Vida medical provider via the Vida app. Within the Vida app go to Settings >>My Documents. Tap “Add Documents.” Follow the app instructions to upload a PDF or screenshots.
Why is my employer using Vida Health as the only prescriber for weight-loss medicines?
Weight-loss medicine is a powerful tool for those seeking to achieve significant weight loss. But these medicines are complex and are most effective for long-term success when paired with lifestyle changes. Vida Health offers support for these changes through health coaching, an easy to use app, and access to medical providers who can help prescribe and help manage side effects, so the medicine works the best it can for those who need it.
I’m already working with a physician, and I’m concerned about moving to a new medical provider. How does my Vida provider work with my regular doctor?
Your medical weight-loss treatment with a Vida medical provider is in addition to the care you already receive from your current doctor or primary care provider.
Your Vida provider focuses on obesity treatment. Your primary care provider is responsible for all other aspects of your healthcare. This includes services such as in-office visits, preventive mammograms and prostate exams, vaccinations, follow-ups after emergency care and planned surgeries, and care for conditions other than obesity/overweight.
Your Vida provider is a licensed doctor or nurse-practitioner who can write lab orders that are used in obesity treatment, review the results, and prescribe weight-loss medicines to directly treat obesity. Vida’s medical providers will prescribe appropriate medicines based on your pharmacy benefit plan’s formulary.
If you are being evaluated for or are preparing for bariatric surgery, Vida will work with your surgical team to ensure that needed weight-loss medicines are prescribed. We encourage you to share your primary care provider name, clinic, phone, and fax number with Vida, and to consent to having Vida send info to your PCP, so your records are up to date. With your consent, Vida will send an after-visit summary by secure fax to your PCP. The after-visit summary may include lab results or other clinical findings of concern and medicines that your Vida provider starts, adjusts, or discontinues.
