Negative filtering

Your mind uses a “filter” to pick which thoughts get your attention.

Sometimes that filter focuses on the negatives while ignoring the positives. When that happens, situations are not viewed with a balanced perspective.

Imagine you receive a job performance review that mentions many personal achievements. It also includes one area that needs more effort.

When a negative filter is in place, you ignore the positives and focus on the one negative area of the review.
